Inspired by Nature

We are Sarah and Becky, the artists behind Nettle Cottage Prints. From our log cabin studio in the North York Moors, we create prints and artworks inspired by the landscape around us and a slower, more attentive way of living.

At the heart of our work is a desire to connect — with the moorland landscape, with ourselves, and with the everyday moments of connection that shape how we move through the world. We’re drawn to the quiet, often overlooked details: shifting light, changing weather, and the small moments that carry meaning. Through our work, we explore these alongside memory, story, and nature’s symbolism.

Story, metaphor and folklore continue to shape what we make, offering ways of stepping into deeper truths and worlds within worlds. We’re interested in what opens something up — a sense of calm, of recognition, of awe — and in sharing this through our work, so that the work becomes something you can step into and experience in your own way.

Our process begins with noticing. From there, ideas unfold through drawing, writing, and printmaking. Lino print remains at the heart of our practice, but we are also exploring other processes, including drypoint and monoprint, as well as new ways of bringing words and image together.

Writing is a central part of what we do. We both keep a daily writing and sketchbook practice, and this increasingly finds its way into the finished work — with words woven into the image as naturally as line and texture. Sarah is currently exploring awe in her daily writing, while Becky is gathering poems on her project of opening alongside her visual work.

Sometimes what we make is simple and pared back, offering a moment of stillness. At other times, it holds more layers and detail. Either way, we hope each piece offers you a kind of doorway — into feeling, reflection, or a deeper connection with your own experience and the world around you.

Although we each create our own pieces, our work grows out of an ongoing shared conversation. We exchange ideas, follow threads together, and shape things as they develop. So while we don’t collaborate in a technical sense, everything we make is part of a shared creative process.

And always nearby is Freddie, our rescue terrier and Nettle Cottage Prince, ‘helping’ as only he can.
